The Bachelorette debuted on ABC in January 2003, ten months after the inception of its parent show, The Bachelor. Up until recently, the show has been hosted by Chris Harrison, one of America’s longest-running reality show hosts. For its 17th season, following the exit of Chris Harrison, it was revealed that former bachelorettes, Tayshia Adams, and Kaitlyn Bristowe would be the new hosts. The season is set to debut in June this year and has already spurred mixed emotions as Chris Harrison was a fan favorite.
For the last sixteen seasons, we have seen ladies find love on The Bachelorette. The show has gained a massive following and is a favorite amongst celebrities, including Justin Bieber. Through love triangles, highs and lows, indecisiveness, and good old affection, we’ve seen the best and worst of the bachelorettes. Some of these relationships have gone on to flourish, while others ended just as fast as they began. To recap the first ten seasons of the show, here are what the couples have been up to:
10 Andy Dorfman And Josh Murray (Split)
The tenth season of the dating show aired between May and July of 2014. Josh Murray turned out to be the last man standing. During the finale, he proposed to Dorfman. The two were engaged for the next five months and announced their breakup in January 2015. In her book, It’s Not Okay, Dorfman described her relationship with Murray as ‘the most volatile and f***** up relationship of my life.”
9 Desiree Hartsock And Chris Siegfried (Together)
Desiree Hartsock returned as a bachelorette after competing on the 17th season of The Bachelor. On the show, she developed feelings for Brooks Forester, who decided to call it quits last minute. The ninth season of The Bachelorette ended on 5th August 2013, with Chris Siegfried emerging as the show’s winner. He and Desiree got married and have two children.
8 Emily Maynard And Jeff Holm (Split)
Emily Maynard was a contestant on the 15th season of The Bachelor. She got engaged to Brad Womack, with whom she split in May 2011. Emily would later return as the eighth bachelorette. On the show, Jeff Holm won Emily’s heart. Despite saying yes to Holm’s proposal, the couple only lasted a little over four months. In October of 2012, they put an end to their relationship.
7 Ashley Hebert And J.P Rosenbaum (Split)
After the seventh season of The Bachelorette, Ashley and Rosenbaum got married. Their wedding was aired as a TV special. Their union bore two children; Fordham Rhys, born in 2014, and Essex Reese, who was born in 2016. In October of 2020, the couple announced that they decided to separate after seven years of marriage. In February this year, Rosenbaum revealed that he is ready to date again.
6 Ali Fedotowsky And Roberto Martinez (Split)
In 2011, Ali Fedoowsky said accepted Roberton Martinez’s proposal on the sixth season finale. Their engagement would be short-lived, as the relationship was done and dusted by October of 2011. Fedowtosky later got engaged to Kevin Manno. The two married in 2017, and have two children. Roberto Martinez, on the other hand, got engaged to Kristiana Elliott in 2020, who he called his ‘forever sweetheart’.
5 Jillian Harris And Ed Swiderski (Split)
In May of 2009, Jillian Harris appeared on the fifth season of The Bachelorette. She was the first Canadian participant in the show’s history. At the end of the season, Ed Swiderski finished last. He proposed, and the two were engaged for a year before they bowed out. Right before the split, there were cheating rumors that floated around, which were rubbished by Jillian.
4 DeAnna Pappas And Jesse Csincsak (Split)
In 2008, The Bachelorette began airing in May, as opposed to the previous January schedule. DeAnna got engaged to Jesse Csincsak. Their wedding, scheduled for May 2009, was a no-show since they broke up in November 2008, only three months after they had been engaged. DeAnna later got married to Stephen Stagliano, with whom she has two children. Jesse went on to marry Ann Lueders, with whom he has three children.
3 Jen Schefft And Jerry Ferris (Split)
Jen Schefft debuted as the third bachelorette in January 2005. The season’s finale turned out complicated when Jen was conflicted over Jerry’s proposal. Jen cited that she and Jerry Ferris were 'better off as friends'. Years later, in 2013, Jen would tell People Magazine that the show didn’t turn out the way she had hoped.
2 Meredith Phillips And Ian McKee (Split)
Meredith Phillips first debuted as a contestant on the fourth season of The Bachelor. Following her position as a second runner-up, Meredith returned as the second bachelorette. Amongst the 25 men she had to choose from, Ian McKee took the crown. The two were engaged for one year, after which they went their separate ways.
1 Trista Rehn And Ryan Sutter (Together)
Following her position as runner-up on the first season of The Bachelor, Trista Rehn debuted as the first bachelorette in 2003. Ryan’s proposal was met by a solid ‘yes’ that would still hold, more than a decade later. Trista and Ryan have been married since 2003. Their wedding was aired on TV. They have stayed true to their vows, and have two children to show for it. It’s safe to say that theirs was a match made in heaven.
